These efforts culminated in the 2022 discovery of a vast burial complex dating between 644 and 525 BCE, during the Late Period of ancient Egypt. This necropolis hosted various types of burials, serving as the final resting place for both common citizens and the wealthy elite.

The site has revealed intriguing details about burial practices and tomb construction. Researchers uncovered miniature canopic jars, vessels used to hold a dead person’s organs during mummification. The tombs themselves varied in construction materials, with common folk interred in mud brick tombs, while wealthier individuals were buried in more elaborate limestone tombs.
